When my menstrual cycle starts, my skin becomes much more reactive and prone to hormonal breakouts.
During this time, keeping my nighttime skincare routine simple is essential. Too many active ingredients can easily lead to irritation, so I focus on calming, hydrating, and barrier-repairing products that support my skin rather than overwhelm it.
1. La Roche-Posay Hydrating Cleanser – gentle and reliable
The La Roche-Posay Hydrating Cleanser has been a long-time favorite in my routine. It effectively removes makeup and daily buildup without stripping the skin or leaving it feeling tight. The texture is soothing, which makes it especially suitable for sensitive skin.
2. Stratia Liquid Gold – barrier repair and healing
Inflamed breakouts are one of my biggest challenges during hormonal flare-ups, and Stratia Liquid Gold helps calm things down. This moisturizer focuses on repairing the skin barrier while delivering long-lasting hydration. Using it consistently helps reduce redness and supports healing, which is crucial when active pimples are present. My skin feels more balanced and less irritated after applying it.
3. Avène Cicalfate – protective second layer
The Avène Cicalfate has been a staple for a long time, and it truly shines during breakout-prone periods. It’s known for helping with burns, cuts, and acne marks, making it incredibly versatile. I apply it after my moisturizer as a second layer, almost like lightly slugging my skin. This extra step locks in moisture and creates a protective barrier that allows my skin to recover overnight.
4. Sunday Riley Eye Cream – gentle care for the under-eyes
Eye cream is always non-negotiable in my routine. The Sunday Riley Eye Cream, which was gifted to me, has become a favorite thanks to how nourishing it feels. It keeps the under-eye area hydrated and comfortable, especially when the rest of my skin is feeling sensitive.
Hormonal acne can be frustrating, but simplifying a skincare routine can make a noticeable difference. Gentle cleansing, barrier-focused hydration, and protective layers help calm inflammation and support healing during the most reactive times of the month. I’m always open to learning more—feel free to share any tips or products that have helped you manage hormonal acne.
