Bhaktapur Durbar Square is one of Nepal’s most fascinating cultural treasures. Situated in Bhaktapur, just east of Kathmandu, this historic palace complex once served as the royal seat of the Malla kings in the 14th–15th centuries and remained central until 1769.
Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with temples, courtyards, and traditional Newar architecture. Restoration continues after major earthquakes in 1934 and 2015, keeping the square vibrant and accessible.

Opening Hours and Ticket Prices

Bhaktapur Durbar Square itself is open 24 hours a day, but the ticket counters operate roughly from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, which is when we need to purchase tickets for the major sites, temples, and museums.
Entry fees:
- Foreign visitors: $18
- SAARC & Chinese nationals: $5
- Nepali nationals: Free
- Children under 10: Free
If we want to enter the museums inside the square (National Art Gallery, Woodcarving Museum, Brass & Bronze Museum), additional fees are around $1–$2 per museum.
